About Hollywood

The Roosevelt Hotel, is the birthplace of the Academy Awards!

The Spanished-style Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, built and opened in 1927, was named after President Theodore Roosevelt. Hollywood pioneer stars Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford, as well as pioneer film producer, Louis B. Mayer helped to finance what would become an historic Hollywood landmark. This hotel is the birthplace of the Academy Awards. In 1928, the first Academy Awards ceremony was held in the Blossom Room of the Roosevelt Hotel. Today, Dolby Theater (formerly Kodak Theater), anchor of the Hollywood Entertainment Complex, is the home of the annual Academy Awards Ceremony. Designed by David Rockwell and opened in 2001, Dolby Theater has also been the venue for high profile events such as the American Idol Finale. Hotels near the Dolby such as Loews Hollywood Hotel, provide convenient accommodations for persons attending Hollywood events at Dolby Theater. More...
